Previously, Mel was Director of Development at RDF Television, part of the Banijay group, creating new factual content for a range of platforms. She worked at RDF for seven years; the company specialises in popular factual programming – everything from Eat Well For Less on BBC One to Secret Life of Four Year Olds on Channel 4, 12 Puppies and Us on BBC Two to Lodgers for Codgers on Channel 4.
Passionate about telling contemporary stories in unconventional or surprising ways – through comedians, social experiments, fun formats and high-profile voices who bring an audience to an issue that might otherwise get overlooked.
Beginning her career as a journalist, completing a postgraduate diploma in magazine journalism at City University and freelancing for a range of papers and magazines, Mel made the move into TV 10 years ago – beginning as a researcher and primarily working in development. She’s worked at companies including: BBC Studios, Films of Record, Twenty Twenty and Me & You Productions.
